What we collect, why, and the control you have. Short version: only what the app needs to work — no ads, and we never sell your data.
Last updated 6 August 2026
1. Who’s responsible
Marinero, based in Innsbruck, Austria, is the data controller for your personal data. You can contact us about anything below.
2. What we collect
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Email address (and name, if you sign in with Google) | To create and secure your account and contact you about your account. |
| Learning progress — XP, cards seen/mastered, streaks | To save and sync your progress across devices. |
| Purchase status (whether you’ve unlocked Capitán) | To give you access to what you paid for. Handled via Stripe; we don’t store your card details. |
| Basic technical data (e.g. device type, errors) | To keep the app working and fix problems. |
| Local storage on your device (login session, offline cache, preferences like night-watch and language) | To keep you signed in, let the app work offline, and remember your settings. |
We do not run advertising, and we don’t use your data to build advertising profiles.
3. Why we’re allowed to (legal bases)
- Performing our contract with you — running your account, saving progress, giving you paid access.
- Legitimate interests — keeping the Service secure and working, and improving it.
- Consent — where we ask for it (you can withdraw it any time).
- Legal obligations — e.g. keeping payment records for tax purposes.
4. Who processes your data for us
- Google Firebase (Google Ireland/Google LLC) — authentication, database, and hosting. Our database runs in a European region (europe-west1).
- Stripe — payment processing.
- Google — if you choose “Sign in with Google”.
These providers act on our instructions under data-processing agreements. Where data is transferred outside the EU/EEA, it’s protected by appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your account and progress data while your account exists. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data, except records we’re legally required to keep (e.g. payment/tax records) for the required period.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your data, and object to certain processing. You can:
- Delete your account and data yourself in the app (Settings), or email us.
- Reset your progress in the app at any time.
- Contact us for any request.
You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority — in Austria, the Datenschutzbehörde (dsb.gv.at).
7. Cookies & local storage
We use essential local storage (to keep you signed in, cache content for offline use, and remember your preferences). We don’t use third-party advertising cookies.
8. Children
Marinero isn’t directed at children under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we’ll remove it.
9. Changes
If we update this policy, we’ll change the date above and, for material changes, let you know in the app or by email.
10. Contact
Contact us for anything privacy-related.
